City Of Ste. Genevieve’s Next Director Of Tourism May Have Same Roles After All

The city of Ste. Genevieve may hire a director of tourism — with virtually all the duties Sandra Cabot performed from 2013 through November of this year — after all.

After city administrator Martin Toma had followed what appeared to be the Board of Aldermen’s consensus and drew up a job description of a scaled-down position of “facilities manager,” the board changed course during a work session last Thursday.

After discussing the situation during the work session, the board passed a motion by Ward 1 Alderman Gary Smith to have Toma write a job description for a position largely the same as Cabot’s, with marketing responsibilities included and a commensurate salary.

Cabot, who was hired in 2013 with an extensive marketing background, was budgeted for a salary of $63,122 in 2019. The facilities manager position Toma had outlined in his three-page job description would earn up to $35,000 a year.

The facilities manager position was assailed from both sides — even though the aldermen had seemed to be leaning in that direction in the past.
