Walk-In Clinic To Open At Pointe Basse Plaza On Monday, January 6

Following on the heels of the successful walk-in clinic at the Bloomsdale Medical Centre, Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital (SGCMH) will open a walk-in clinic at Pointe Basse Plaza on Monday, January 6.

Missy Sutton, SGCMH Assistant CEO, said Plaza Family Health Care would provide quick and convenient medical care, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“The Bloomsdale walk-in clinic was such a great addition to helping families get medical care when it was convenient for them, that the community has asked us to implement much the same thing in Ste. Genevieve,” Sutton said. “We know that when you need to see a physician, waiting is not usually an option, so we want to make getting healthcare as easy as possible. You can simply walk in to the Bloomsdale or the new plaza clinic in January and you’ll see a provider quickly for medical attention.”

Sutton also added that when patients at Plaza Family Health Care require X-rays or labs, it would be an easy visit to the hospital’s imaging or lab across the street. The walk-in clinic provider will be looking at X-ray or lab results and calling patients back.

While the Bloomsdale Pharmacy has proven to be convenient for patients needing prescriptions after a visit to the Bloomsdale walk-in clinic, residents will find it just as convenient at the plaza with Country Mart’s pharmacy next door or in the spring, the retail pharmacy at the hospital’s new medical office building.

Sutton said that in the past the only choice was to go to the emergency room (ER) or hope to get an appointment at the doctor’s office for illnesses or injuries that needed more immediate attention.

“The walk-in clinics offer a convenient and more affordable alternative to the ER, especially with ER co-pays ranging anywhere from $250 to $500,” Sutton said. “The clinics provide services of non-emergency care and is for the treatment of patients with an injury or illness that require immediate care, but is not serious enough to necessitate a visit to the ER. Minor injuries, muscle sprains or strain, stomach ache, nausea, headache, dizziness, and ear, throat or nose infections are all typical reasons people utilize the walk-in clinics.”

Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital providers, physicians and nurse practitioners, will rotate to provide services at both the Bloomsdale and Plaza locations.

Sutton also pointed out that while the walk-in clinics provide fast, convenient care, it is always advantageous to have a primary care provider for follow-ups and to establish a long-term doctor-patient relationship for optimal healthcare.
