American Legion Post 150 Makes Donation To Shop With A Cop
Buchholtz-Kiefer American Legion Post 150 in Ste. Genevieve doubled its annual contribution to the Shop With A Cop program this year.
Virgil Boyer, Post 150 commander, presented Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office deputy Jeff McCarty a check for $4,000 on November 19.
This is the 11th year of the program and the 11th consecutive year the American Legion Post 150 has supported it.
The American Legion has donated about $15,000 to Shop With A Cop over the years.
The Shop With A Cop program allows law enforcement officers in Ste. Genevieve County to take children who otherwise might not get any Christmas presents to pick out items at a local store.
McCarty said that about 150 children are on the list this year for the shopping trip, and others will receive toy baskets.
“You were the very first place we called on, and you’ve been with us ever since,” McCarty said to Boyer.
“It’s all for the kids,” Boyer replied.
“I can’t thank the community enough for their support,” McCarty said, adding that local schools conduct coin drives for the program.
