St. Mary, Kaskaskia Among Stops On Annual Christmas Country Church Tour

The 15th annual Christmas Country Church Tour, based in Perry County, features 38 rural churches, including Immaculate Conception in St. Mary for the first time and Immaculate Conception in Kaskaskia, Illinois, as well.

The tour is set for 2 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, and Friday, December 13.

It also includes stops in Cape Girardeau and Bollinger counties.

The free, self-guided tour allows visitors to create their own customized trip among 38 churches of various denominations, ranging from one-room wooden-clad buildings to brick-and-mortar masterpieces draped in holiday decorations.

Also on display will be a Nativity collection at the St. Mary’s of the Barren, a Christmas tree collection of more than 50 themed trees at the Lutheran Heritage Center and Museum and a drive-thru live Nativity depicting the birth of Christ at the Saxon Lutheran Memorial.

“It has been described as a Holiday Treasure Hunt,” said Trish Erzfeld, director of Perry County Heritage Tourism.
