Gwendolyn ‘Gwen’ Caputo
Gwendolyn “Gwen” Maria Caputo of Festus died on Friday, October 25, 2019, at her home. She was 70 years old.
She was born December 19, 1948, in St. Louis, a daughter of the late Edith (Papin) and Medford Filer.
She is survived by her husband, Mark Caputo; one daughter, Dr. Sarah Walsh and her husband Joe Sonderman of St. Louis; one son, Dr. Scott Joggerst and his wife Kim of Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren, Carter Sonderman, Reed Sonderman, Greta Sonderman, Coen Joggerst, Eva Joggerst; five brothers, Michael Filer and his wife Angie of Bonne Terre, Richard “Rich” Filer and his wife Jackie Moran of Festus, Steve Filer and his wife Sharon of Festus, Greg Filer and his wife Chris of Festus, Mark Filer and his wife Sandy of Eureka, Missouri; and one sister, Mary Beth Werner and her husband Patrick of Festus.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Raymond Walsh; and an infant brother, David Filer.
She was a member of Our Lady Church; and she retired after 25 years as an office systems technology professor at Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Missouri. She was extraordinarily generous and donated to many charities.
She enjoyed cooking, family gatherings, walking, and being outdoors, especially hunting morel mushrooms. She had numerous groups of friends, spanning from grade school to adulthood, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and pets.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 8, at Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 9, at Our Lady Church in Festus. Burial is at St. Anne Cemetery in French Village, Missouri. Vinyard Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the food pantry of First United Methodist Church of Festus/Crystal City; the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation; or to the Holy Spirit Adoration (Pink) Sisters.
