Local Organizations Donate To R-II School District’s Backpacks For Friday Program

The GFWC Woman’s Club of Ste. Genevieve and the Ste. Genevieve Rotary recently made donations to the Backpacks for Friday program at Ste. Genevieve R-II School District, an initiative that provides basic food staples to 50 needy families.

The Ste. Genevieve R-II School District partners with the Southeast Missouri Food Bank to organize the program, which is funded through donations from community organizations, local businesses and residents. These donations are a vital contribution, as these partnerships assist us in the fight against hunger in the community. So far this school year, the following businesses and organizations have donated to this program: Bloomsdale Bank, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Don Heil Oil Company, LJ Hart, L’Hoist North America, Oberle Meats, River Hills Thunderin Longbeards, Rotary Club of Ste. Genevieve, Ste. Genevieve Vision Care, and the GFWC Woman’s Club of Ste. Genevieve. Funds are raised a year in advance.

For the 2020-21 school year, one backpack is equal to $350.

This provides one student with 36 weeks of healthy, nutritious food to take home. When students’ basic needs are met, they can focus on learning and growing into strong, productive, healthier citizens. Individuals, organizations or businesses that would like to make a donation to the program can make your tax deductible donations payable to “Ste. Genevieve School District R-II Foundation” with “Backpacks for Friday Program” noted on the memo line. Contributions can be mailed to: Ste. Genevieve R-II School District, Attn: Paul Taylor, Assistant Superintendent, 375 N. Fifth Street, Ste. Genevieve, MO 63670.
