Project Pioneer Begins Meetings For 2020 Honorees
Ste. Genevieve Project Pioneer will meet with the French Placet and Michaud families and the German Oberle and Operle families at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, in the Ste. Genevieve County Library meeting room, located in the Ste. Genevieve County Community Center building on Highway 32.
This is the first meeting this season for the families to be honored at Jour de Fete in 2020, and there will be one more on the second Saturday of November before the two-month Christmas break.
While it may seem that the French families have died out in this area, that actually is not true. Michael Placet, the first of that line, raised six daughters who married and carry other family names. Project Pioneer research shows names that include LaHaye, Charleville, Bequette, Roussin, LaRose and Govreau, among others. Some of these names are more common in the Perryville area.
