Investigation Continues On Incident With Ferry Boat; Reward Offered

The Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate an incident involving the Ste. Genevieve-Modoc Ferry last week, but it has contacted the U.S. Coast Guard to potentially complete the investigation.

Major Jason Schott, chief deputy for the Sheriff’s Office, said last week that a person or people somehow got onto the ferry last week and eventually set the ferry loose from its spot at the Little Rock landing. The ferry floated about two miles down the Mississippi River toward the island across from the Marina de Gabouri, he said.

Ron Inman, chairman of the New Bourbon Regional Port Authority board, which oversees ferry operations, said the incident is believed to have taken place around 2:30 a.m. on the morning of Tuesday, August 13.

He said the person or people involved separated the ferry boat from the barge and set it loose. He said some other damage was done and that money was taken from the ferry.

A $2,000 reward has been offered for information that leads to a conviction.
