County Library’s Harry Potter Celebration Scheduled For July 31

For those who haven’t stopped by the Ste. Genevieve County Library since it has become managed locally, next week presents a prime opportunity to do so.

Harry Potter fans especially are encouraged to attend a special birthday party of everyone’s favorite wizard from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31.

Participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite Hogwarts character to get into the spirit and to help set the mood in the library.

“We are really excited for this program,” library director Shawn Long said. “We are bringing back old staples, like making your own wand at Ollivander’s Wand Shop and even screening the first film. However, we wanted to find other things that really stick with the theme.”

As participants come in they will be encouraged to take their photo on Platform 9 3/4 before starting the activities around Diagon Alley.

In addition to the wand craft, participants will be able to make their own Owl note holder at Eeylops Owl Emporium, test their deduction skills at Gringotts Wizarding Bank, listen to a story or two with the staff at Flourish and Blotts, and helping to free Dobby the Library Elf at the sock toss.

“We wanted this program to showcase not only our creativity but also make sure Potter fans young and old have a great time, too,” Long said. “We are still adding programs at the time of this release but we want this to be a really great time for everyone.”

While at the library, guests are encouraged to grab a slice of cake courtesy of Rubeus Hagrid while they play a round of Wizard Chess — or regular chess if you’re a muggle — and check out their next favorite book or register for a library card.
