Grass Named 2019 Winner Of Lindsay Roth Scholarship
Haley Grass, right, a 2019 Ste. Genevieve High School graduate, was named the winner of the 2019 Lindsay Roth Memorial Scholarship. Grass is the daughter of Steve and Julie Grass. She plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University and major in early childhood education. In her essay as part of the scholarship competition, she wrote that she was leaning toward nursing before serving as a cadet teacher in the 2018-19 school year and seeing how much of a difference teachers can make in young peoples’ lives. “The smile on their face when I come in every morning is what makes my day. … I’ve learned that it takes a special kind of person to help guided these little minds. I know I have only been in the classroom for a full semester, but I believe that this career path is the right path for me.” She worked this year with Ste. Genevieve Elementary third-grade teacher Tiffany Wolk, who taught Grass when Grass was a second-grader. (Photo from the Roth family; information from the Roth family and Herald archives)
