Civil War Monument To Be Dedicated On Saturday In St. Mary

A monument will be dedicated at noon on Saturday, July 6, in the St. Mary Cemetery at the grave of Corporal Moses Riney of the 68th Regiment U.S. Colored Troops Infantry Company A.

The Ste. Genevieve Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Camp 326 will make the presentation.

Some of Riney’s descendants will be present for the ceremony.

Michael Schaaf researched Riney’s Civil War service and took the initiative to obtain the monument marker. Schaaf and Gary Scheel cleaned the gravestone.

For those who plan to attend, if Highway 61 to St. Mary is still closed this weekend, take Intersate 55 to Route Z to St. Mary Church Road to Mint Spring Road and then make a left on St. Mary Cemetery Road.
