Sojourn Rocs Plans To Play Upbeat Favorites In Summer Music Series Debut
Making the trip from Mattoon, Illinois, to Ste. Genevieve this Friday night will be no big deal for the five members of Sojourn Rocs.
The band performs throughout the Midwest, and was scheduled to have a show Tuesday at Kentucky Motor Speedway.
They will make their debut in the Ste. Genevieve Chamber of Commerce Summer Music Series this Friday night at the Orris Theatre.
Band member Jimmie Perry said those who attend the concert will see a set filled with up-tempo music that will cover a variety of genres and decades.
“You’ll hear a lot of different styles, and you’ll hear good music, good vocals, and you’ll just have a good time,” Perry said. “We’ll take them on a musical journey. We’ll do ’60s, ’70s. ’80s; we’ll do some country; we’ll just be all over the genre map.”
The Sojourn Rocs website proclaims: “The band might strike up ‘Runaround Sue,’ and the next tune might be a song by Ozzy [Osbourne].”
Recognizable covers, Perry summarized.
The website lists clips such as “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” “Long Cool Woman,” “Magic Carpet Ride,” “Little Sister,” “Barracuda” and “Bad Case Of Loving You.”
The band plays special events such as festivals and fairs as well as weddings.
“We hit the road quite a bit,” Perry said.
For this trip, he is happy to be packing light.
“We call these kind of jobs suitcase jobs because we don’t have to set the PA system up or man it,” Perry said. “It tends to be a whole lot better job for us if we don’t have the burden of setting a PA system up.”
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the concert begins at 8 p.m.
Tickets to all shows in the series this year are $20. They may be purchased through the Chamber of Commerce at 573-883-3686 or its website.
The series opened with a sell-out last week for Eagles Nation.
