Levee District 3 Board Selects BT Electric To Perform Cleaning Of Electrical Connections

Members of the Levee District 3 board voted at their May 13 meeting to award the contract for cleaning electrical connections at the Urban Design Levee pump station to BT Electric of Bloomsdale.

BT bid $1,925 to do the job, while Mid-State Energy bid $3,100.

When technicians installed the repaired Flygt PL7121 pump at the pump station this spring, it was noted that the connections had not been cleaned recently.

Meanwhile, the board is awaiting a report from Dana Hecht of Pro Tech Well and Pump, which inspected 10 of the district’s 24 relief or de-watering wells.

The wells serve as a protective device for the levee. Water seeps to the top of the wells. As the water level raises to ground level, it boils out the top and takes pressure off the ground. This reduces the likelihood of sand boils developing.

Board members had agreed at the April meeting that the northern wells were operating fine during the heavy rains and high water this spring. Therefore, they were not among the first 10 wells tested.

No official report had been received yet.
