SGMS Students Recognized For Leadership

Ste. Genevieve Middle School teachers in April nominated students who showed leadership through one of the seven habits the school promotes to its students.

These habits are part of the Leader in Me program, which helps develop students’ leadership skills through proven classroom techniques and social emotional learning systems.

The following students all showed leadership through Habit No. 7: “Sharpen the Saw.” This includes taking care of the body by eating right, exercising and getting sleep along with spending time with family and friends. Students focus on learning wherever they are, not only in school, and they are encouraged to find meaningful ways to help others.

The students honored, and the nominating information:

Eighth grade, Lindsey Crump: “Lindsey is extremely conscientious about the foods she eats and how well she takes care of herself. She is also the first to suggest ways we can help our community and lessen our carbon footprint. Lindsey often talks about her family and their suggestions for the activities we are performing in our class. She has several members of her family she is close to and shares her experiences with me often. She is a model student. Lindsey is meticulous when it comes to her class projects, demanding perfection from herself. She also realizes when failure is OK and charges ahead to rework any issues at hand. I absolutely love having her no-nonsense attitude and creative ideas in class.”

Seventh grade,  Elaina Schemel: “Elaina takes care of herself and is always on task.  She makes good use of her time and is willing to help others when asked.”

Sixth grade, Charles Corbett: “Charles sharpens the saw by always refining on skills he learned in class by writing his own practice problems, working on puzzles and explaining ideas to others. Charles also carries several responsibilities, which makes his time management very important. He can be found exceeding by riding his bike around town or on the field playing sports.”

These habits included in the Leader in Me program are from Sean Covey’s The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens.
