County’s New Water Park Won’t Be Open By End Of May

Ste. Genevieve County Presiding Commissioner Garry Nelson delivered the bad news last week about the grand opening for the Ste. Genevieve County Family Aquatic Center:

“Unfortunately, it will not open on Memorial Day,” Nelson said on April 10 at the Community Services Forum meeting. “Hopefully by mid-June or not more than another two or three weeks [after Memorial Day].”

Nelson said Thursday at the County Commission meeting that about 70 construction days had been lost due to snow, rain or some other weather issues.

Nelson had met with Colin Rogers, vice president of Brockmiller Construction, regarding the construction schedule.

“I asked him to give us the most accurate opening date and he said mid to late June,” Nelson said, adding that heavy rains this spring could push it back to the Fourth of July.

“It’s not the contractor’s fault,” Nelson said. “It’s been a wet year. We’ve had a wet 12 months.

“It’s been so much snow and rain, winter work was almost nothing,”
