HISTORY PROGRAM

French Colonial America is offering a special program called “Strong Women & Compassionate Hearts” this month. The program is in partnership with the St. Louis Gateway Arch Museum. It will be presented at the Gateway Arch from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, and again from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Linden House in Ste. Genevieve. (The Hands-On History House at the Linden House will officially open on Saturday, March 23.) The program is a special Women’s History Month family-friendly learning opportunity with demonstrations and hands-on activities to illustrate the economic and social roles filled by women and girls in this region during the colonial era using Ste. Genevieve as an example. There is no admission charge at either site.

TASTE OF STE. GENEVIEVE

The fourth annual Taste of Ste. Genevieve event will be bigger and better in 2019 with a move to the Progress Sports Complex at the Ste. Genevieve County Community Center. The event is 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 30. Tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple and includes a signature wine glass. GARDEN WALK

Ste. Genevieve’s annual Garden Walk is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, and Sunday, May 19. Tickets are $7 for individuals, $6 per person for groups of five or more, and free for children 12 and under. The event allows ticketholders to tour private and public gardens throughout the city. The weekend’s activities also include the Ste. Genevieve Farmers Market from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday and the Master Gardeners plant sale from 9 a.m. Saturday through 4 p.m. Sunday. The Garden Walk is sponsored by Ste. Genevieve Master Gardeners and the University of Missouri Extension. For information, call the Ste. Genevieve Welcome Center at 573-883-7097.

CAR CRUISE NIGHTS

The Ste. Gen. Gearheadz car club is organizing cruise nights in historic downtown Ste. Genevieve from the third Saturday in May through the third Satuday in October. Cruises will be from 5 to 9 p.m., and all cars, truck and bikes are welcome. Event includes 50/50 drawing, entertainment and music. For more information, contact Brian at 573-883-6411.

PRAYER SERVICE

Holy Cross Lutheran Church on Market Street in Ste. Genevieve will host a special prayer service at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, focusing on addiction. While not everyone has struggled with addiction, most if not all of us know at least one family member or friend who does, and all of us have been affected by our sins and this fallen world.

LUNCH AND LEARN

Basler Funeral Home will host a lunch and learn at noon on Thursday, March 7. Lunch will include chicken and wild rice soup, cobb salad and dessert. Refreshments will be provided. There will also be an attendance prize giveaway. Seating is limited. Information will be shared on several subjects with a question-and-answer session to follow. Participants will learn about advance funeral planning and why it is so necessary for creating a healing and meaningful celebration of life, and how to avoid mistakes families sometimes make during times of grief. PROJECT PIONEER

Members of the French Misplait/ Misplay families and the German Schmidt/Schmelzle families are urged to attend the Project Pioneer meeting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, in the meeting room of the Ste. Genevieve County Library, located in the Ste. Genevieve County Community Center. The families will be honored at the Jour de Fete on Saturday, August 10, and Sunday, August 11, 2019. Along with family information, family members also are urged to gather photos of their earliest ancestors to be included in the books. Family information will be accepted at the meeting, and a review of the activities of Project Pioneer will be presented. It was announced at the February meeting that the committee has secured use of the city council/city court meeting room for the Project Pioneer gathering during Jour de Fete. This will be a one-day gathering on Saturday, August 10 only. Planning meetings will continue on the second Saturday of each month through July with the final meeting set for July 27. Family books will be available during Jour de Fete weekend.

COUNTY BEEKEEPERS

The Ste Genevieve County Beekeepers meet at 7 p.m. the first Monday of each month at 295 Brooks Drive in Ste Genevieve. New, experienced or anyone interested in beekeeping is welcome to attend.

VALLE AUCTION

The 2019 Valle Auction, with the theme “The Possible Dream,” is scheduled for Saturday, March 16, at the school, with doors opening at 5 p.m. The Kozy Kitchen will be catering dinner with Angus beef brisket, roasted red potatoes, parmesan-encrusted roasted zucchini sticks and caramel apple pie (tickets, $60). A limited number of tickets for the $10,000 grand prize remain. Contact any Valle student or the school (573-883-7496) for information about tickets. AUDUBON DINNER

Audubon’s Grill & Bar in downtown Ste. Genevieve will host a fundraising event from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, in which those who dine can support Options for Women, a Christian organization that helps those facing unplanned pregnancies choose life. It also supports families in need. Ten percent of the night’s proceeds will go toward Options for Women.

CAREGIVERS EVENT

The fourth annual Ste. Genevieve Caregivers Conference will take place from 8:30 to noon on Saturday, March 16 at the Ste. Genevieve County Community Center. The event includes a panel discussion, presentations, resource tables, free refreshments and attendance prizes. Speakers will share information and encouragement especially for caregivers. Drawings and free items will be offered by vendors in the exhibit hall. Pre-registration is encouraged but walk-ins are welcome. CPR CLASS

The Ste. Genevieve County Health Department will offer an American Heart Association Heartsaver “Family and Friends” CPR class from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19. This class is for anyone who does not need a course certification card but wants to learn CPR/AED and choking. For this class only, the fees will be waived, but the book will still be provided. The class and the book are free. Registration is required. Call Lee at 573-883-7411.

Library Events

MARCH EVENTS

The Ste. Genevieve County Library, located inside the Ste. Genevieve County Community Center, will host: a video game night from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 8; a Friends of the Library meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 11; storytime at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12; and another video game night from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 29. The library will be closed on Saturday, March 9, for maintenance, and from Friday, March 15, to Thursday, March 28, for flooring installation.

Community Center

SNAKE SCHOOL

Rob Sulkowski, Missouri Department of Conservation agent for Ste. Genevieve County, will bring various species of snakes and let kids feel the snakes’ scales. He will talk about the difference between snakes, including venomous and non-venomous. The free event will be 6 to 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, and is open to ages 12 and under.

SPRING GARAGE SALE

The annual spring garage sale at the Ste. Genevieve County Community Center will take place from 7 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, in the Progress Sports Complex gymnasium. Free for shoppers. Sellers can get 24 feet of table space for $24. Call 573-883-5244 for details. No commercial vendors.

WORKOUT FOR ST. JUDE

The annual Workout for St. Jude event will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for shopping with various vendors. Cost is $15 per ticket in cash or check made out to St. Jude. All proceeds benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Drinks and snacks provided.

BRIDAL SHOW

The inaugural Bridal Show will be Sunday, April 28, from noon to 4 p.m., offering an opportunity for brides to compare services and prices, register for prizes, see unique ideas and experience the latest trends in fashion and weddings. Fish Fry

ASH WEDNESDAY

Our Lady Help of Christians in Weingarten will host a fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children. Carryouts available. Call 573-883-6539 and ask for Pat.

Support Groups

PARKINSON’S PALS

Parkinson’s Pals meets at 10 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month in the Education Conference Room at Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital, 800 Ste. Genevieve Drive. Parkinson’s Pals is a support group for those with the condition, family members and friends, and anyone who would like more information about Parkinson’s Disease. HEALING HEARTS

The Healing Hearts monthly grief support group is meeting on the second Monday of every month at Riverview at the Park, beginning at 10 a.m. Gayla Sisk, MSW, LCSW, of Serenity HospiceCare, will lead the meetings. The free grief-support group is open to all in the community. RSVP to 573-431-0162.
