Winter Weather Slows County Road Preparations

Winter weather continues to dictate how the Ste. Genevieve County Road and Bridge Department spends its time.

Foreman Scott Schmieder updated the County Commission at the commissioners’ meeting last Thursday.

Schmieder said his crews had been busy with snow removal over the previous weekend and were patching muddy spots on roads last week.

He said he would see about installing pipes during the week of February 25, beginning with Clement Road, if it is dry enough.

“We had it scheduled and then it snowed,” Schmieder said.

“It’s not been a good winter for roads,” Presiding Commissioner Garry Nelson said.

“That’s what I tell people,” Schmieder said. “My hands are tied [by the weather]; I can’t do anything.”
