While rain has affected numerous events around the area this spring, there was only one track meet that got postponed this season when Ste. Genevieve’s Old Settlement Relays was pushed back three days.

On Saturday, one of the biggest meets for the Dragons was affected by rainy weather.

Ste. Genevieve hosted the Class 3 District 1 meet, and while track meets usually go on through some rain as long as lightning isn’t nearby, constant rain throughout most of the day altered those plans. The Dragons were able to get all of their running events in, but three field events on the boys and girls side were postponed to Monday, May 13 past the Herald deadline.

Despite part of the meet being placed on hold, Ste. Genevieve’s coaches were pleased with how their athletes performed.

Postponements can always be an issue, but more of those issues arise when it comes to the postseason stretch. Besides being on a stricter timeline due to the upcoming sectional and state meets, postponements affect multiple schools.

Javelin, high jump and shot put were postponed on the girls’ side, and on the boys’ side pole vault, discus and long jump were pushed back.

The postponement slightly altered the practice schedule for Ste. Genevieve, but coaches planned to keep the day as close to a normal schedule as possible.

Due to the postponement the meet results weren’t declared final this past Saturday, and full results were only posted online after the last event was done. Ste. Genevieve did print out results of completed events and tapped them to a wall near the concession stand. The results listed below were from printed results.

The top four finishers in each event will move on to the Class 3 Sectional 1 meet at Hillsboro on Saturday. Weather permitting next week’s issue will have full results of the district meet along with a recap of sectionals.

See complete coverage in the May 15 edition.
