Ste. Genevieve had a prime opportunity to clinch its first district title since 2016 when it made it through the winner’s bracket and reached the District 13 championship.

Instead, rival Festus played spoiler at Yanks Field Sunday afternoon.

After Ste. Genevieve dropped its first title game Post 150 improved on its offense, but Post 253 limited Ste. Genevieve’s opportunities and triumphed 9-5 in the second championship game as the top seed defended its district title.

Festus won the first championship game 11-1 in five innings.

“I guess we didn’t come ready to play,” said Ste. Genevieve head coach Junie Basler. “It starts with me there. We just weren’t mentally prepared, and we weren’t mentally in either game. It was very disappointing.”
