Samaritans Purse’s Operation Christmas Child got underway locally last week, with toys and other items being dropped off and boxed up at Hope Church.

Hundreds of shoeboxes full of toys for children living in extreme poverty will be sent from Ste. Genevieve County to countries all over the glove.

“These boxes go to needy children in over 120 countries around the world,” said Becky Cooper, church relations relay center coordinator for Samaritans Purse. “A child will only ever receive one shoebox in their lifetime. Typically, these children live in very poor conditions. Either they’ve been through some kind of natural disaster or war zones, those kind of situations, or just poverty-stricken.”
