Heralds Community Calendar lists free events, programs, meetings
and services available to county residents. Priority is given to
those actually held in this County which are open to the public.
Items are printed as space permits. Those that are submitted early,
are more likely to be published. Any organization or group may submit
material. Include the groups name, nature of the event, date,
time, place and a phone number in case more information is required.
The
Herald CALENDAR deadline is 5pm on the Friday before the SUBMITTED
item is to be published.
BEGIN AGAIN PROGRAM FOR THE WIDOWED
Begin Again will offer a program August 31 on age-related eye diseases, presented by Lesa Klein, OD, of Klein Eye Care. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. and will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Ste. Genevieve. All widowed persons and their widowed friends are invited. PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION
The Ste. Genevieve Parish School of Religion kicks off on September 1, with a mass at 6:45 p.m. followed by an open house. Registration is open and forms can be picked up at the Parish Center or in the back of the Church of Ste. Genevieve.
AMERICAN LEGION, RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE
American Legion Post 150 will host a Red Cross blood drive September 2, from noon to 6 p.m.
HIGHWAY 61 61-MILE YARD SALE
The dates for the annual Highway 61 61-Mile Yard Sale are from Thursday afternoon, September 2, through Friday and Saturday, September 3 and 4. Organizers say this year the sale will stretch from the northern part of this county to Jackson, Missouri. Participation is free; information is available at www.61yardsale.com.
IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH PICNIC
Immaculate Conception Church of Kaskaskia will hold its annual picnic September 5, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the church grounds on Kaskaskia Island. A variety of activities is planned, including tours of the church and bell shrine. There are fees for food and some activities.
AWANA REGISTRATION AT FIRST BAPTIST
Registration for the AWANA youth program at First Baptist Church of Ste. Genevieve will take place September 8, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Parents must be present. For more information call Kelly Steagall at (573)535-4592.
CHURCH OF STE. GEN. PARISH PICNIC
The Church of Ste. Genevieve will hold its annual parish picnic September 11-12 on the grounds of the Knights of Columbus Hall in Ste. Genevieve. Saturday’s activities begin with a mass at 5 p.m. on the KC grounds and run until 11 p.m. Sunday hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is a fee for some activities.
INTRO TO ALPHA COURSE AT HOPE CHURCH
Hope Church on Triangle Drive will host an introduction to its ALPHA course at 6 p.m. on September 13. There will be a free dinner and introductory video presentation on the course. For more information or to say you will attend call Becky Cooper at (573)483-3177.
‘GROWING UP’ PROGRAMS AT HOSPITAL
Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital hosts free sessions for youngsters ages nine to 12 years on September 15 and September 16, providing an opportunity for candid discussions about the maturation process (including hygiene and physiological changes). Parents must accompany the child. Pizza and refreshments will be served. The session for girls is September 15; the session for boys is September 16. Call 883-4402 for more information.
COUNTY DEMOCRATS MEET
The Ste. Genevieve County Democratic Club will meet on September 15 at 7 p.m., at the Local 169 Steelworkers Hall (950 South Gabouri in Ste Genevieve). Members and interested guests are encouraged to attend.
VALLE HOMECOMING
Valle High School’s Homecoming will take place the weekend of September 17-18, with a parade from the Valle parking lot at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The homecoming mass will be conducted at the Church of Ste. Genevieve at 5 p.m. Saturday.
LIBRARY PRESCHOOL STORYTIME
Ozark Regional Library’s fall storytime sessions kick off September 23 at the library located in the Ste. Genevieve County Community Center and continue each Thursday. The sessions are 45 minutes long and begin at 10 a.m. The first topic is “The Alphabet Train: The Letter K.” Kids will craft a kangaroo pencil cup. The programs are free of charge to the public; parental or adult supervision of children is required.
RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION
Ste. Genevieve Parish will conduct the inquiry phase of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program in September for adults who think they may be interested in the Catholic Church. Call the Parish Center at 883-2731 for more information.

HOPE CHURCH CELEBRATE RECOVERY PROGRAM
Based on eight principles from the Bible, Celebrate Recovery is for those struggling with hurts, habits and hang-ups. Meetings are every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Hope Church. Call 883-0063 for more information.
2nd Baptist CHURCH CLOTHES CLOSET

HEALTHY LIFESTYLES PROGRAM
The Healthy Lifestyle Program is based on the Food Guide Pyramid. Meetings are offered every Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Ste. Genevieve County Health Department. For more information call 883-7411.
