Calendar Of Events

The Herald’s Community Calendar lists free events, programs, meetings and services available to county residents. Priority is given to those actually held in this County which are open to the public. Items are printed as space permits. Those that are submitted early, are more likely to be published. Any organization or group may submit material. Include the group’s name, nature of the event, date, time, place and a phone number in case more information is required.

The Herald CALENDAR deadline is 5pm on the Friday before the SUBMITTED item is to be published.

RED CROSS BLOODS DRIVES AT KC HALL AND SGHS
An American Red Cross blood drive will be held May 8, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Ste. Genevieve. All donors who present to donate blood will receive a limited edition Rock and Roll tee-shirt and a chance to win a gold record donated by Lynyrd Skynyrd. A blood drive also will take place at Ste. Genevieve High School from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 9.

CAR SEAT SAFETY CHECK DAY
The Ste. Genevieve County Ambulance District will hold a free car seat safety check day on May 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the parking lot at Dairy Queen. (See article on this page.)

VOLUNTEER WORK DAY AT CITY TREE NURSERY
Volunteers are needed for a May 10 work day at the City of Ste. Genevieve's new tree nursery. The volunteers will be asked to help spread mulch. The tree nursery is located behind the train tracks on Market Street. Contact Gary Smith at 883-9115 or Kate Boyd at 883-3188 for more information.

LETTER CARRIERS’ FOOD DRIVE
Ste. Genevieve County letter carriers’ will mount their annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive on May 10. Non-perishable food items may be left by mailboxes to be picked up by carriers. All donations go to food banks in Ste. Genevieve County.

BUSINESS BOOT CAMP AT COMMUNITY CENTER
The Ste. Genevieve County Community Center will present a program in its How-To-Tuesdays Business Boot Camp program May 13, featuring Jack Rozier speaking on college planning. The session will run from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 pm. in Meeting Room 2. No pre-registration required.

VFW BUDDY POPPY DAY
The Auxiliary to VFW Post 2210 in Ste. Genevieve will hold its annual Buddy Poppy Day on May 16, with the poppies on sale at Country Mart, the Save-A-Lot store and a roadblock on Fourth Street at Ste. Genevieve Farms. Poppy sales at stores will take place all day. The roadblock will be in place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

ANNUAL STE. GENEVIEVE GARDEN WALK
Ste. Genevieve holds its annual garden walk from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 17; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 18. Some free activities are available.

LADIES ONLY STREET SMART PROGRAM
A free program to help women learn how to defend themselves in dangerous situations will be offered for girls (grade six and higher) and women at Trinity Baptist Church in St. Mary on May 10. The program will be presented at 11 a.m. by David and Tara Gamma.

HOPE ACADEMY MUSICIANS AT WESLEY METHODIST
Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church (Hwy. 61 at AA in Jefferson County) will feature guest musicians from Hope Christian Academy, led by Travis Puhse of the Travis Lee Band, at a contemporary service on May 10 at 5:30 p.m.

BEGIN AGAIN POT LUCK DINNER
The Begin Again Program for the Widowed will hold a pot luck dinner May 13 at 6 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Ste. Genevieve. A program “guaranteed to make you laugh” will be presented. The dinner and program are free and the organization will provide meat and beverages, however guests are asked to bring a covered dish. Reservations are required. Call Carolyn Basler at 883-3558 by May 9.

STE. GENEVIEVE AL-ANON MEETINGS
The Ste. Genevieve Al-Anon group meets each Thursday of the month (except the last Thursday) at 7:30 p.m. ain the basement of the Ste. Genevieve Catholic Church Parish Center (please use rear entrance). On the last Thursday of each month Al-Anon members attend open AA meetings.

MINNITH COUNTY FAIR, VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
The Minnith County Fair will be held at Saline Baptist Church May 31, from noon to 6 p.m. There will be games and races for kids, along with bluegrass and gospel music, and registration for the church's Vacation Bible School, which will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., June 2 through June 5. To get to Saline Baptist Church from Ste. Genevieve, take I-55 South, turn right on St. Mary (Z) exit and left on State Route N for approx. 2 miles.
